According to the Catholic Church, the system of arranged marriage is actually rejected. They believe in the idea of Holy Matrimony being a sacrament in the church. Any sacrament should not be forced upon people, such as arranged marriage. They feel like it is okay that even if a man and women are being forced into a marriage, they gradually fall in love with each other, wanting to get married and live a good life. However, they do not accept the idea of parents giving away their son or daughter. Also, according to the catechism of the Catholic Church, it states that "The Church holds the exchange of consent between the spouses to be the indispensable element that "makes the marriage." This means that the presence of consent is lacking, then there is no marriage. The consent needs to be present from each of the parties that is free of pressure or fear. They strongly believe that if there is no sense of freedom in this marriage, then this marriage is invalid. In other words, the Catholic Church feels as though arranged marriages are wrong and that it is extremely important that there should be no sort of force on you to love someone that is arranged by your family members.
